Ravemen CL200 200-lumen smart rear bike light mounted on a gravel bike

Ravemen CL200 rear bike light review + 10% discount code

in Gear Reviews

My honest review of the Ravemen CL200 200-lumen brake-sensing bike tail light. Tested with both saddle rail and seatpost mounts for rainy gravel and road rides.

When I decided to overhaul my lighting setup and tidy up my handlebars with the Ravemen FR1500 front light, I knew my old rear light needed retiring too.

During autumn and winter, low sun, grey drizzle, and dark country lanes make rear visibility non-negotiable. Even on daytime gravel rides, you inevitably have to link trails together using fast B-roads where drivers are squinting through wet windscreens. (For more cold-weather prep, check out my tips for gravel cycling in the winter).

I wanted a tail light that was blindingly bright when needed, properly sealed against rear-wheel mud spray, and neat enough to tuck right under my saddle without looking like a clunky brick strapped to my seatpost. Enter the Ravemen CL200.

Quick verdict / TL;DR

Weighing just 31g, the Ravemen CL200 is a super sleek, horizontal strip tail light that punches out up to 200 lumens with a huge 300-degree wide-angle beam. It comes with two quarter-turn mounts right in the box - a bolted saddle rail bracket and a rubber seatpost strap - plus smart brake sensing, auto on/off, up to 160 hours of max runtime, and IPX6 waterproofing for rainy weather. For £54.95 ($49.95) - or under £50 with code BAB10 - it is one of the cleanest, brightest rear lights you can put on a gravel or road bike.

Unboxing and design: sleek, featherlight, and gift-worthy

Just like its big brother up front, the CL200 arrives in Ravemen's signature bright orange packaging and feels properly premium the second you take it out. If you are hunting for a Christmas gift for a cyclist in your life, this light is an easy win.

Most rear bike lights are vertical blocks or round pucks. The CL200 takes a much more interesting approach. It uses an elongated, horizontal body with a wrap-around red COB LED strip running right around the edges.

At just 31 grams, it weighs next to nothing in your hand.

300-degree side visibility and 200-lumen punch

Because that red LED strip wraps around the sides of the casing rather than only pointing straight backwards, it throws out a 300-degree wide-angle beam.

When you are rolling across junctions, mini-roundabouts, or pulling out of side lanes at dusk, cars approaching from side angles can spot that red strip immediately. And on its 200-lumen Warning Flashing mode, this thing is bright. Seriously bright. Even in glaring low sunlight, drivers have zero excuse for missing you.

Two mounting options included: saddle rails or seatpost

One of my favourite things about the Ravemen CL200 is how it attaches to the bike. The back of the light uses a neat, quarter-turn twist connection (very similar in feel to a miniature Garmin mount) that clicks firmly into place with a quarter twist.

Even better, Ravemen includes both types of mounts in the box:

1. The saddle rail mount (ABM25)

This bracket bolts directly underneath your twin saddle rails using the included Allen key and screws. Once installed under the saddle on my Sonder Camino AL, the CL200 tucks high and flush right beneath the rear of the saddle.

It looks factory-integrated. Plus, mounting it to the saddle rails keeps my entire Redshift ShockStop suspension seatpost completely clear to move through its travel without a strap in the way.

2. The rubber seatpost strap mount (ABM14)

What if you are running a saddle bag under your rails, or you want to swap the light onto a second bike in ten seconds? That is where the included ABM14 rubber seatpost mount comes in.

It straps securely around standard round seatposts as well as many aero seatposts. Having both mounts in the box means you can leave the bolted bracket permanently under your main bike's saddle and keep the rubber strap mount for a commuter bike or bikepacking setup when a seatpack takes up your saddle rails.

IPX6 waterproofing for rainy weather and muddy lanes

Let's be honest: a rear bike light lives a miserable life in wet conditions. If you ride gravel tracks or rainy lanes without full-length mudguards, your back wheel acts like a firehose, blasting water, mud, and gritty paste straight onto the back of your seatpost and saddle.

That is why the IPX6 waterproof rating on the CL200 is a big deal. It is built to shrug off heavy downpours and direct spray. Ravemen also tucked the USB-C charging port behind a tight, recessed cover on the rear housing to keep grit out.

Smart brake sensor and auto on/off

Alongside its 6 brightness and flash modes, the CL200 packs two smart features that make everyday riding effortless:

  • Brake detection: When the internal sensor feels you decelerating, the light automatically jumps up in brightness for 2 seconds like a car brake light, warning traffic or riders behind you that you are slowing down.
  • Auto on/off: Stop at a cafe or traffic light for more than 2 minutes and the CL200 puts itself to sleep to save battery. Pick the bike up or roll forward and it switches straight back on automatically.

Pros and cons of the Ravemen CL200

Here is what stood out for the good during my setup, along with a couple of small quirks I noticed right away.

What I liked

  • Clean under-saddle mounting: Tucks neatly beneath the saddle rails so your seatpost stays clear.
  • Both mounts included in the box: You get both the bolted saddle rail bracket (ABM25) and the rubber seatpost strap (ABM14).
  • Serious 200-lumen punch + 300° side visibility: The wrap-around COB LED strip is impossible to miss from behind or from side junctions.
  • Proper IPX6 weather sealing: Ready for relentless rear-tyre spray and rainy gravel rides.
  • Featherlight at 31g: Adds zero noticeable weight to the bike while delivering up to 160 hours max runtime on slow flash (and 12 hours on full 200-lumen warning flash).
  • Smart brake sensing and auto sleep/wake: Set-and-forget convenience.

What could be improved

  • The shape is a bit weird at first: Because it is a horizontal bar that juts out the back like a little glowing ducktail (especially on the seatpost strap), it looks slightly strange when you first step back and look at the bike. It is just something to get used to, and the trade-off is that mega 300-degree side visibility.
  • The Garmin-style twist mount is proper stiff out of the box: The first time I twisted the light into the bracket, it was so tight I genuinely thought I was about to snap the plastic tabs clean off. Thankfully I was proved wrong - nothing broke, and after twisting it on and off a few times you get used to the firm click (plus you know it definitely isn't going to rattle loose on rough gravel).

Final verdict + 10% Ravemen discount code

The Ravemen CL200 is a cracking bit of kit. It solves the bulky seatpost-light problem by tucking cleanly under your saddle rails, gives you a spare seatpost mount in the box for when you run bags, and throws out a massive 300-degree arc of red light that cuts right through gloomy, rainy weather.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Ravemen CL200 comes with two mounting brackets in the box that use a Garmin-style quarter-turn twist lock: the ABM25 saddle rail mount (which bolts directly underneath standard twin saddle rails for a super clean, tucked look) and the ABM14 rubber strap seatpost mount (which fits round and aero seatposts).

While the twist-lock mechanism works just like a Garmin quarter-turn mount, the tabs on the back of the CL200 are a smaller, compact Ravemen size. It locks securely into the two included Ravemen brackets (ABM25 saddle rail mount and ABM14 seatpost mount), rather than full-size handlebar GPS mounts.

Yes. The CL200 is rated to IPX6 water resistance and uses a recessed, covered USB-C charging port. Because a rear light sits directly in the firing line of spray and mud flung off your back tyre, IPX6 sealing is essential for rainy weather and wet gravel trails.

A built-in accelerometer detects when you decelerate and automatically boosts the rear light output for 2 seconds to alert drivers behind you. It also includes an auto sleep/wake sensor that turns the light off after 2 minutes of standing still and wakes it back up the instant your bike moves.
